Bert is the second son of Ernst and Magdalena Frache. He was a well liked man by everyone who met him. He
immigrated to the United States with his mother from Germany when he was about sixteen years old. He immigrated to Canada
in 1896 and lived in Sayward, B.C. for four years. Due to a head and spinal injury earlier in his life, Bert suffered
severe headaches, and back pain for most of his adult life.
He loved to travel. Recorded in the Grand Forks Gazette are trips to the Seattle Exposition,
Vancouver in 1922, a vacation for two weeks to Spokane Washington and a trip to Lethbridge, Alberta in 1923.
He became a naturalized citizen of Canada in 1926. He first met his bride in January of
1926 at Nelson, British Columbia when he met the Ferry which brought her after her journey from Holland. They were given
a reception in Nelson to celebrate their engagement and Bert presented her with her ring.
Betsy was fascinated by this new country and Berts family, but she was always homesick for Holland
and her rrelatives. Her insisted in teaching her English himself and showered her with candy and flowers as he courted
her.
Betsy was not physically well due to gallbladder problems and relatives helped her tend the children.
She was a beautiful crocheter and was seen always working on something in her hands.
