Ernst Frache and his
family lived in Gaablau, Schlesien, Germany from 1867 to 1889. Ernst worked as a storekeeper and also as a laborer possibly
working on the railroad. Although it is not known or documented where Ernst was born, the family remember being told
he came from Alsace-Lorraine, France. This could be true as there are numerous Frache families living in that region.
One source has him listed as Ernst Eduard Frache. Ernst married Anna Marie Magdalene LORENZ around 1866. His religion
was Evangelical, while hers was Catholic. The family took on the Lutheran religion after Ernst died.
Magdalena as she was known ,was born
5 Jun 1848 in Berthelsdorf, Schlesien, Germany. Magdalena lost two of her children in infancy. After the death
of her husband, she immigrated to the United States with her children. It must have been a very trying time for her,
coming to a new land with different customs and language so soon after her loss. After immigrating to Wardner, Idaho,
Magdalena immigrated to British Columbia, Canada 1896 and helped at the local hotel in Sayward just outside of Trail. Around
1905 she and her sons Richard, Bert, Al and Gus along with Emma, moved to Grand Forks, B.C. Magdalena died in Grand
Forks the 29 April, 1916 and is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in that town.
